A System of Daily Rest

A System of Daily Rest

Teachers spend their days giving.

Giving attention.
Giving patience.
Giving encouragement.
Giving instruction.
Giving emotional energy.

And sometimes we expect ourselves to keep giving even when we feel like there is nothing left to give.

But sustainable teaching requires more than passion. It requires recovery.

Rest isn't a reward you earn after everything is finished. Rest is part of the system that allows you to continue showing up well for your students.

Try building a simple daily system of rest:

MORNING: Start with a few quiet minutes before the day begins.

MIDDAY: Take an intentional pause to breathe and reset.

AFTER SCHOOL: Create a transition that allows you to leave the school day behind.

EVENING: Do something that restores you mentally, emotionally, or physically.

BEFORE BED: Release what you cannot control and prepare for tomorrow.

You don't have to give 100% every minute of every day to be an excellent teacher.

A rested teacher can be a more present teacher.

Protect your energy.
Create your rhythms.
Take your rest seriously.

Rest today. Teach tomorrow.
